Asphalt/Chip Seal Repair Requirements
Town of Cave Creek - Asphalt Patch Requirements
Patches on Cave Creek Road
- Six inches of City of Phoenix ¾ Asphalt Mix in two lifts (2-inch lift over 4-inch lift) compacted to a minimum 95%.
- All requirements in the “Patches on Paved Surfaces” section shall apply to Cave Creek Road
Patches on Paved Surfaces
- Three inches minimum of City of Phoenix ¾ Asphalt Mix compacted to a minimum 95%. If existing asphalt is greater than 3 inches contractor shall match existing thickness.
- Material shall be tacked between lifts.
- Seams of patches must be sealed.
- Utility access facilities (valve boxes, manholes, etc.) must be raised no earlier than 24 hours and no later than 5 business days after asphalt placement and must have concrete ring per Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Detail 391-1 Type C.
- Type II asphalt slurry patch (per MAG Section 715) shall be placed no earlier than 30 days and no later than 90 days if road has been slurried within the previous 5 years.
- Trench shall be backfilled with ½ sack CLSM slurry per MAG Section 728, with a minimum of 12 inches.
- Asphalt patch to be a minimum 10 feet out from edge of trench.
- Potholing, with a maximum of 12-inch diameter, shall be backfilled with a minimum 12 inches of ½ sack CLSM slurry per MAG Section 728 and a minimum of 2 inch City of Phoenix ¾ Asphalt Mix compacted to 95%.
- Patch must be the complete lane width of any lane the patch encroaches upon.
- All edges of patch must be saw cut immediately before patch.
- It is the Contractor’s responsibility to call for inspection at least 24 hours prior to placement.
- All pavement markings must be temporarily replaced after asphalt patch then permanently replaced after slurry patch.
Patches on Chip Seal Surfaces
- Two inches minimum City of Phoenix ¾ Asphalt Mix compacted to a minimum 95%.
- Trench shall be backfilled with ½ sack CLSM slurry per MAG Section 728, minimum of 12 inches.
- Seams of patch must be sealed.
- Utility access facilities (valve boxes, manholes, etc.) must be raised no earlier than 24 hours and no later than 5 business days after asphalt placement and must have concrete ring per MAG Detail 391-1 Type C.
- Asphalt patch to be a minimum 10 feet out from edge of trench.
